recession
- recession = people don't have as much spare money to buy newspapers when its free online
- online newspapers - allow people to access their news at any time and it to be the most recent thing
- print editions - already old news by the time they are out & don't have the essence of time
- advertisers can advertise online for free and also reach a much larger audience - more worthwhile
- advertising revenue has decreased & pays for around 70% of the newspaper costs
- the circulation of print newspapers has decreased largely over the last few years bc:
- online news is the primary source of news
- online news is much more easily accessible for people and gives them the most current and important news anytime & anywhere
- online news are easier & more cost effective for advertisers to put their adverts - print papers are losing a large mass of their funding
- online news is better for the environment - less waste from physical print papers - important in today's society
